how to correct black point of CRT monitor?

by efffemm@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Jun 18, 2007 at 10:43 PM

I tried a monitor calibration website. It said I should be
able to distinguish a grey of RGB=050505, but I can't see
anything until RGB=0F0F0F. Therefore the black point needs
tweaking. I was told that this is simply a matter of
turning up the brightness. When I crank up the brightness
so that I can see 050505, then the bright end saturates,
i.e. E0E0E0 is the same as FFFFFF. Also fiddling with the
contrast did not help. Therefore, I must open up the case
and find a trimpot to set the black level? My old monitor
had a heap of trimpots at the back, with holes to stick in
a screwdriver, but my current monster has none. The menus
have no more settings than brightness, contrast and colour
temperature.
Presumably I must find a service technician to adjust it
for me then?
