MacBookPro 15" 2.4 ghz + WD 500 gigabyte MyBook quad-interface external
hd. While it's working, it works fairly well.
I thought i was going to use it as a Time Machine drive but:
Iif i don't access the disk for a short period (say 15 minutes) it goes
to sleep and nothing can wake it up, dismount it or anything -- in fact,
if i try to access it after it goes to sleep, it slags my whole machine,
and i lose open items on the desktop as a result of having to use the
power-button reboot.
This is _very_ frustrating.
It's been going on since i had 10.4.10 (when i bought my MPB), and
continues up to today, with a fully updated Leopard. I have installed
WDs "button manager" which seems a) invisible and b) utterly useless.
The "power switch" on the back of the drive enclosure does absolutely
nothing, without respect to the operating state of the drive.
I've been unable to find anything substantive on WD or Apple's site.
I Hate My MyBook and hope nobody else buys one.
