Pioneer DVR-112D refuses to read CDs?

Replaced CDR drive in my G4 Dual 1.25 GHz by DVR-112D, used Patchburn to 
be able to use iDVD, works like a charm. I read an wrote a lot of DVD's, 
everything fine.

Today I discovered I cannot read cdrom or audio cd. Are there any known 
issues with settings of hardware and software which may cause this 
failure? Should I consider the drive broken?
