One option offered on the net here and there in the past was the use 
of distilled water.  Specifically "distilled" as opposed to 
out-of-the-tap or bottled spring water as distilled should have less 
impurities.

Rinsing the effected area in the distilled will help wash out 
impurities while leaving less behind.

Drying will take several days as noted in the other response.

The overall suggestion is that its dead anyway, so anything tried 
won't hurt.
