Mac OS 7.6.1 ethernet card install

First let me start off in saying that this is a temp mac till I buy
new imac.

Ok I have a mac running OS 7.6.1 on a power mac 6500

I installed an ethernet card in the PCI slot and booted my mac. The
light on ethernet card is is on. Question is I go into TCP/IP and
nothing is there for IP. Connect via only has Appletalk and PPP. Is
there something I have to edit or change? Is it a driver issue? Thanks
for any help
