The widest of these is about 720 px which is quite fine as a minimum 
width for the vast majority of screens.

If you go for what is generally described as a "liquid layout" you will 
have no problem with those graphics. What will actually happen is that 
if the window decreases to less that 720 px then the right side of the 
graphic will stop being visible.

If you imagine an HTML or RTF email with graphics in it then that gives 
a good idea of how liquid web layouts behave. The text will will wrap 
against the right side of the window, or the edge of the element that 
you have defined for it, and the graphics will run off the edge of the 
screen.

A gallery of thumbnails like yours can be done in this liquid style. 
The thumbnails behave like characters in a line of text and wrap 
against the right margin of their element. This means that you no 
longer have fixed four across but will have as many columns as the 
browser will allow.

However personally I think that as you have quite a large gallery I 
think the table works very well, but it would be cool to do it in a 
liquid form and see how you liked it :)
