First, let me say it looks nicer now (simpler, no pesky blue 
borders or glows) and more inviting without the music bar. That 
is on Safari.

OK, in addition to previous comments about eliminating the pop 
ups, I will add this reason: it is a nuisance having to remove or 
move or click away from it to get back to the thumbnails. Compare 
with a situation where it is a simple link from the thumb to the 
enlargement and occurs _According to the users preferences_ 
(there are different ways, sometimes opening in same window, 
sometimes in new window, sometimes in new tabs). All of these 
ways prima facie are superior to the pop up because they are the 
users preferences. And now, more than just prima facie, they 
enable all the normal controls that are built into the browser to 
navigate. Your pop up technology overrides this stuff at the cost 
of usuability. Give you one example: I would normally command 
curly bracket in Safari or iCab to get back to the thumbs if the 
thumbs were a simple link. I find myself disappointed that I 
cannot and have to fiddle about with your pop ups. 

I will also give you another reason: with a site like yours, I 
would love to be able to open the enlargements into different 
tabs. Having many enlargements there in tabs for my perusal, for 
comparison. Your popups block the simple way to do this given my 
settings, I cannot command click the links and it happens.

Consider again losing these things. Sometimes they have a 
purpose. I use them (though less and less these days) on some 
commercial sites to put up fairly small windows so people can see 
materials, close up of weaves, some small details, while still 
seeing the main page. In your case it is not appropriate because 
the enlargements by their very nature are big! 

Consider these things TaliesinSoft.
