Why am I unable to create WoW Expansion race characters...

.... despite the burning crusade being installed?

I'm on a brand new 24" 2.8GHz iMac running OSX 10.5.1 and the two
expansion races are greyed out. Blizzard just replied with an
astoni****ngly unhelpful form letter. Cheers Blizzard. Nice to see you
still suck (I was a Diablo 1 and 2 player).
