Need help w/BootX icon

First I guess I need to know where to post this problem. Re 17" G4
Powerbook running 10.4.11. There is a "BootX" icon on the desktop, no
idea how or when it got there. I can't unlock it and can't trash it -
would like to be rid of it. 
Please advise, or tell me where to ask.
