Dave-
While you certainly could have a defective unit, you might also be
suffering from interference.
Microwave ovens and some cordless phones generate signals in the 2400
MHz (2.4 GHz) range, and have been known to disrupt WiFi links.
Another nearby WiFi base station could also be on the same channel. If
you run a "stumbler" program such as iStumbler, you may see others in
the area and which channel they are on. The channels overlap, so it is
best to choose one that is as far away from the others as possible.
