I recently purchased a LinkSys BEFSX41 router to replace the TrendNet
router which came with my WildBlue satellite internet connection, because
the TrendNet didn't allow me to disable UPnP.
While the TrendNet "just worked", the LinkSys stops receiving bytes every
two to three hours. At that point, I can either press the Reset button on
the back of the router, or do a "DHCP Release" / "DHCP Renew" on the
router's status page, and I'm good for another 2-3 hours.
I've not changed any network settings on my Mac Pro (10.4.11) when I
switched routers. The LinkSys is set up to "Obtain an IP automatically",
just as the TrendNet was. The only changes I've made from the defaults
on the LinkSys are the admin password and the timezone settings, plus
I've upgraded the router's firmware to 1.52.15, the most recent on the
LinkSys web site (the router had the same bad behavior with the firmware
it came with: 1.15.9).
I've tried power-cycling the router, power-cycling the satellite modem
and then, after it came up, the router, all to no avail.
What can I do to fix the router so that I don't have to Reset it every
couple of hours?
TIA,
-Dave
