WHO CARES? It means nothing. Give it up already! You guys going
round-and-round like this about market-share is like arguing how many
angels
will fit on the head of a pin. It means nothing - absolutely nothing.
What's
im****tant is that as a single computer company (as opposed to an entire
industry made up of hundreds, perhaps thousands of computer companies)
Apple
sells more computers every year. That the company is healthy and the
platform
is healthy, and even more im****tant the platform is PERCEIVED as being
healthy by the rest of the industry -which attracts developers. More
im****tant than those is that Apple sales are growing while the rest of the
industry's sales are flat or even down. That's it. World-wide market-share
means absolutely nothing of any consequence to anybody except bean
counters.
As a statistic, it doesn't denote quality, it doesn't denote usefulness,
it's
not an indicator of overall industry health, nor does it indicate
increasing
sales.
But, Edwin, Glorb, Mr X, and all of the rest of you who dream about market
share every night, dream about this and ponder it: Microsoft's
market-share
has dwindled somewhat. It use to be 97% now it's around 92%. If Apple is
stuck at 3% like you guys want it to be, and Linux still accounts for less
than 1%, then were did the remaining 4% go?
