just added myself- it doesn't make any difference.

sudo is with your own password;  su is with the root password.  that's 
typicall behavior.  the wheel group has nothing to do with it. 

doing some quick digging around, it seems like the wheel group used to 
be popular amongst bsd distribustions of unix, and group permissions for 
the su executable would be tied to it.  seems almost like a poor man's 
sudo, but sudo has been around so long, that doesn't make any sense.
