Uh... because people's routine text messaging is usually illicit?
Most text messaging seems to be not just innocent, but nearly pointless
chatter. Let's not panic people into thinking law enforcement might be
reading their mindless chatter.
In fact, if you want to defeat law enforcement's interest, LET THEM
READ EVERY WORD.
I'll bet that cures them of the interest much better than encrypting,
which must make them feel something is being hidden.
