So, apart from COPS being aired in sweden as well, I recently saw a tv
show from america I hadn't seen before. It was about people that
chatted up what they thought were 13 and 14-year old girls on the
internet and setting up a date with them, and when they showed up they
were busted by the police.
On a sidenote, this kind of "baiting" wouldn't be allowed in Sweden,
the law can't provoke crime here and if they do, the supposed criminal
walks free, even if he or she comes home to what they thought were a
minor bringing ***ual "equipment" or whatnot. Maybe this differs from
state to state in USA of course.
Either way, in this TV series, the faces of these guys weren't blurred
out, except for one. And I assumed that given that most were family
men, that if the camera team had asked them, they would not have
wanted their face to be shown on national TV.
So why was one blurred? My personal theory is that it is allowed to
have *convicted* criminals images on TV, but not those that are not
yet proven guilty (or just that the legal case has yet to come to a
conclusion). Is that it?
I mean, by the time of airing all of those could very well be
convicted (and as far as I could figure out, they were). Same could be
said about non-blurred people in COPS I suppose.
Or is it some other factors? Just curious.
