Eudora cra****ng upon startup

I have a friend with Eudora 6.2.4 which is cra****ng on startup with the
following messages in the log:

MAIN 524296:515.24.7 In file size mismatch; #351927360 != 351925187
MAIN 524296:0.0.1 Rebuilding table of contents for "In"
MAIN 524296:0.53.36 0 of the -25320 summaries in the old table of
contents used; -18661 new summaries created.

What can be done about recovering from the above crash?
