Argghh! It sounds like things went from bad to worse. :-(
My guess is that there may be a typing error in the username. For at
least some mail servers, the username and password are case sensitive
and have to match, so even if you have the right password it won't work
if there's an error in the username. If the username looks like it is
correct, it may be that there is an invisible character inadvertently
inserted into it. Tab into the username field (so that the entire thing
is highlighted) and retype the username. This will get rid of any
possible hidden characters.
