Suppressing "possible unwanted assignment" warning

I just started compiling some previous code with CW 10, and get this 
warning:

Warning : possible unwanted assignment
GifReader.cpp line 246       if ((global = (buf[4] & 0x80)))  // Both 
test and assign

I thought the standard workaround WAS to include the redundant 
parentheses?
