Only Freescale can give a definitive answer to this, but it's a fairly 
safe guess that you will only be able to do this if MSL becomes a 
separate product.

Quite. But I would argue that it is time to look beyond CodeWarrior. The 
Dinkum library, for instance, is very will regarded.

If it is not compatible with the latest versions of the OS and 
compilers, I'm sure Dinkumware can be persuaded to update it, given a 
suitable incentive.
