Metrowerks & Apple

by Steve O'Connell <soconnell20@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 9, 2005 at 08:52 AM

Everyone,

I'm a long time CodeWarrior fan & user on both the Mac and PC. It is the
best development tool out there, hands down. Yes, it is unfortunate that
1)
MW decided to get out of the x86/Win32 sup****t and 2) Apple is now
pursuing
the x86 platform for future hardware platforms.

From Metrowerks point of view, we all have to rememeber that they are a
business. They are trying to make money by satisfying viable markets.
Maybe Metrowerks decided that they don't need the hassle of competing with
Apple's free development tools - they can be more successful (that is,
make
money) in the embedded market. That sure seems like what
Freescale/Motorola
is doing. There must be a reason why the embedded/cell phone markets are
exploding, but computer sales are flat. Besides, Apple sure doesn't seem
to
care much about their third party software developers.

I personally would love to see Metrowerks sup****t both the Mac (PPC & x86)
as well as the Windows markets. If there was some way to make this dream
come true, let me know. Unfortunately, I can appreciate the predicament
Metrowerks is in. In the meantime, I dread ****ting my stuff over to Xcode
and MSDev. So much for 'progress'.
