Epson R300 won't print CDs now

Using OS 10.4.11 with Epson Stylus Photo R300. All going well for 
months, till suddenly trying to print a printable CD (from EpsonPrintCD) 
now always produces error message: "Close CD guide", which makes it 
rather hard to print the CD.

Tried uninstalling old driver and installing latest driver from Epson 
website (SPR300Series 309.app), but this makes no difference. 

Reverted to old version, no joy.

Any suggestions, please?
