Possible new user alert!

Hiya everyone

I was chatting to someone in a depression newsgroup (I'm not sure if he 
wants me to give his name out or anything so I'll just call him R from now

on) and I'm thinking of getting a Mac laptop when I've got enough cash 
together and I was just wondering how often new versions of the operating 
system come out and how long the current one has been out?

I'm thinking of getting a MacBook for £829 and was wondering if that is
