Yes, it's turned on.
It says "Firewall on" just above the button which is labelled "Stop".
And in the list of services "Windows sharing" has a tick in the "on" box
next to it which is greyed out (making it impossible to turn off).
If I click on the "Services tab I have "Windows sharing" turned on (I
occasionally transfer files between my Mac and a PC in my house).

Well, I just tried to remove the tick-box in "Windows sharing" (under
the "Services" tab) which also removed the tick-box in the list under
the "Firewall" tab, while ensuring that the Firewall was still on, then
taking the test again.
Same result. ****elds up still complains about Ping requests coming
through.
By the way, I just noticed that the link I posted in my previous message
wasn't correct.
The correct link is: https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
When you get there, click on the "proceed" button in the middle of the
page, and when you get on the next page click on the "Common ****ts"
button which performs the test.
The result here is that it marks all the ****ts' statuses as "Stealth",
but it still tells me that the test has failed because a ping from the
test was replied to by my system.
