Error code -1309 (when downloading a file)

What does error code -1309 mean?
Here's a screenshot:

I've connected to a server via "AFP" using the "Go"-"Connect to
server" menu in Finder and was busy downloading a large (2.9 Gbytes)
file to my machine.
Even with broadband it takes forever to download (2 or 3 hours) and
I've had this error message show up 3 times now, in the midst of
downloading the file.
The worst part is that I can see (using "Get info" in the Finder) that
I've already downloaded 2GB og that file, and if I press the "OK"
button in the error message dialog the partially downloaded file
disappears from the download location and I have to start all over
again.

If the error message signifies some sort of intermittent network
error, is there a way I can just resume downloading to see if I can
get the rest of the file?
