I do not know what "the orange cable" is.
You need a cross-over cable to connect directly from one ethernet ****t 
to another.
Or you need a switch or router and use direct cables. One from each 
computer to the switch/router. The switch/router then makes the 
cross-over connection.
The router is a nice solution and enables you to connect multiple 
devices via ethernet.
The basic setup is not difficult.
