I am a newbie to macs and have a machine running 10.4.3. I am trying to
connect it to the internet but it never quite seems to make it despite it
receiving all the right settings from DHCP. When I run network diagnostics
it says it can connect to the internet but not to "xserve1.local",
possibly
because of a problem with this server. The machine is plugged straight
into
my DSL Modem and should not be needing a server. This machine was pulled
from a college network. Is this message a throwback to that system? If so,
how the hell do I get rid of the stupid server? If not, what does it man
and
how do I fix it? TIA.
