moving items to Applications folder

by KaPOP <kapop@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 4, 2007 at 08:40 PM

Running OS 10.4.3 on an eMac with 1.25g processor and 256 mb RAM.

I recently downloaded Netscape and a couple of free word processing
programs. I moved these to the Applications folder (where, it seems to
me, they belong) with little trouble. I also downloaded Firefox but it
won't go to the Applications folder; it makes an alias in that folder
but remains on the Desktop. Why? (I don't really want applications
cluttering up the Desktop.)

Also, when I click the Firefox icon and select "Get Info" it says
"Volume" rather than "Application." Again, why?

And, finally, once I downloaded the previous apps and stored them in the
Applications folder, I was able to get rid of the Disk Image for those
programs. But the Firefox Disk Image can't be deleted because it says
it's in use. I guess I don't really understand what a disk image is.
Any explanations?

Thanks in advance,

Karl
